competitions

As a company, Zero Theory endeavors to conduct, coordinate, or sponsor competitions on a regular basis. As shooters, we make it a point to enter competitions individually as well. We prioritize tactical and precision rifle events but necessarily include pistol, 2Gun, and other disciplines recognizing the benefits of a well-rounded approach to training. We regularly participate in outside competitions and encourage our students to do the same. Shooting outside your comfort zone – in front of strangers and with no home field advantage – is a valuable method to truly gauge your own abilities.

Scoped Carbine

This is a tactical action event designed for scoped carbines and focusing on targets at distances from 100-600 yards thus requiring the use of magnified optics. Previously, there were two classes: Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) and Reconnaissance Combat Carbine (RECCE). The RECCE class allowed a scope up to 8x, barrel up to 16″, one small bag, and no bipod. Everything over this was considered DMR. More recently, the two classes were eliminated and we began testing the concept of having all scoped carbines compete together in the same class. Scoring is conducted in the “time plus penalties” format. Calibers are not restricted, but the most popular is 5.56. Large frame AR calibers are allowed as well.

Tactical Carbine

The Tactical Carbine match provides an opportunity for the large number of existing AR/AK owners, service members, and LEO’s with issued patrol carbines to come out and run their equipment in a series of stages set in a safe but challenging format. Shooters will require little or no specialized equipment. They need only bring their AR, AK, or similar carbine and common ammunition. Some stages are short/close/fast engagements at CQB distance, some stretch out to a few hundred yards with generous steel targets, and some are a combination of both. Targets are both paper/cardboard silhouettes and miscellaneous steel at distance. Scoring is “time plus penalties.” We also run a 2-Gun variation which integrates tactical pistol as well.
